{"id":5262,"date":"2023-09-14T09:00:48","date_gmt":"2023-09-14T09:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cipg.or.id\/?post_type=publication&#038;p=5262"},"modified":"2025-03-06T02:27:20","modified_gmt":"2025-03-06T02:27:20","slug":"fairwork-indonesia-2023","status":"publish","type":"publication","link":"https:\/\/cpig.arip.web.id\/id\/publication\/fairwork-indonesia-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Fairwork Indonesia Ratings 2023: Labour Standards in the Platform Economy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Despite the recent COVID-19 pandemic, economic <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">slowdown, and inflation in fuel and food prices, Indonesia <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">remains South East Asia\u2019s largest digital economy. Along with e-commerce, the digital economy in Indonesia has been dominated by the platform work economy, especially in groceries, transport, and food delivery. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"><a href=\"https:\/\/fair.work\/en\/ratings\/indonesia\/\">Previous Fairwork Indonesia reports<\/a> found that Indonesian platform workers\u2019 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">pay and working conditions fall well short of decent work <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">standards. The poor working conditions are characterised by <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the absence of labour rights, long working hours, unstable <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and low earnings, the absence of formally-recognised <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">worker unions, risks to workers\u2019 safety, limited access to <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">accident and health insurance, as well as varied gendered <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">challenges for female workers. <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Unfortunately, these issues are still evident in the <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">third year of the Fairwork initiative\u2019s research in <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Indonesia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The purpose of <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">this report is not only to present the working conditions <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of platform workers in Indonesia, but also to provide <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">valuable insights and recommendations.<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"> By examining the challenges platform workers <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">face and the factors contributing to their work conditions, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">this report outlines the steps <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">that key stakeholders should take to improve their <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">situation.
